Norwich experimental collective The Tortugas return with Rooks, a six-track EP shaped across 18 months of careful home recording and production. Expanding their blend of dark surf, gothic moods and jazz-infused textures, the release gains extra depth through Sophie Vaughan’s expressive vocals and cello alongside resonator guitar, slide guitar and inventive found-object effects. Inspired by Norfolk’s open landscapes, fractured relationships, political unrest and fading coastal scenery, the songs feel cinematic, as though written for an unseen arthouse film. Recorded entirely at home, Rooks captures haunting beauty without losing warmth, delivering an atmospheric listening experience that rewards patience, imagination and repeated spins while showcasing remarkable craftsmanship.
